OrderWise, one end-to-end solution exceeding the job of five for major retailer, Gift Universe
The gift and gadgets retailer and wholesaler, Gift Universe Group, was founded in 2002 and today carries out more than three million transactions a year.
In addition to running over 60 retail stores, Gift Universe also has multiple ecommerce channels and operates out of a 60,000sq ft warehouse which supplies to their retail stores, as well as their wholesale and ecommerce customers.
Before implementing OrderWise, this entire operation was managed by five separate, unintegrated systems that required data to be manually entered and transferred across the company.
As a growing retailer in the competitive, multi-channel era, Gift Universe undertook extensive research to find a new system that would seamlessly integrate all business data and eliminate unnecessary manual processes.
Chief Executive, Paul Kraftman, explains: “We looked at a number of systems and we quickly came to the conclusion that OrderWise provided a very good solution for us, especially for the warehouse operations, processing orders for wholesale and for the accounts part of the business too.”
While achieving total integration between Gift Universe’s front-of-house, warehouse and back-office was a priority, it was also essential that implementation did not cause any downtime.
“Considering it was affecting every single touchpoint of the business, it went remarkably well - we were never in a position where we stopped trading or couldn’t operate. Customers never suffered - we got stock out to stores, processed transactions and we knew what was happening, so we were happy with how it all went,” Paul praises.
Chris Harrison, Stock and Systems Manager at Gift Universe’s warehouse, says: “The best thing that OrderWise has done for our operation is it’s given us full stock control of our business, not only throughout the warehouse, the ecommerce and wholesale, but also across our stores as well.”
With OrderWise Mobile WMS Devices implemented across unit picking and discrepancies, accuracy levels have improved from 86% to 99.7%, which has streamlined supply chain operations.
Assistant Manager at one of the group’s Leicester stores, Callum Harrison, says: “the relationship between the warehouse and stores has also improved massively. Using one system, it’s a lot easier to find the right stock at the right time, accuracy is a lot better and it’s easier to find the sales statistics for the week.”
He also adds that the ability to process sales on mobile tablets “really helps lower the queues and there are quicker sales on the shop floor.”
Finance Manager, Stacey Monk , reveals what impact OrderWise’s traceability and fulfilment functions have had Gift Universe’s finance team: “it allows the better flow of information, so for the audit trail, we can see right from the moment that stock is ordered all the way to when it comes and is sold. We’ve got all of that on one system.”
While OrderWise’s continually developed functionality will evolve alongside Gift Universe’s business growth, their journey of becoming a fully integrated, multi-channel retail operator would not have worked without OrderWise’s specialist support pre and post-implementation.
